So, last year I did something wild. I took a job at a high school.
No, not to relive my glory days (though let me tell you, the temptation to audition for the spring musical was strong). I stepped into a world of bell schedules, teenage slang I don’t understand, and more hallway drama than an episode of Drag Race.
And I learned A LOT – about life, business, and, surprisingly, myself. I thought I was just stepping in to help, to support students, maybe to keep things stable so Brazen House could breathe a little bit.
But of course – the universe had other plans. As she does. 🙃
Here are four things I learned that I can’t not share:
✨ Lesson 1: Sometimes we just need someone to hold our hand or say “You’re actually amazing, FYI.”
One of the biggest things I saw working with teens is how much it matters to have someone believe in you. Turns out, adults are just tall kids with 401ks. Sometimes we just need one person to reflect our magic back to us. (So here I am: You’re doing great. You’re brilliant. Go look in the mirror and wink at yourself, please.)
✨ Lesson 2: If your business feels stuck, maybe it’s not broken – maybe you’re just burnt out.
When I put Brazen House on the backburner, I felt… weird. Guilty. Unsure. But stepping away gave me the exact clarity I couldn’t find when I was knee-deep in to-do lists and Canva tabs.
It was like putting the puzzle down, walking away, and coming back with fresh eyes. Suddenly the pieces made sense.
If you’re in the messy middle right now – it doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It might mean you need to breathe.
✨ Lesson 3: The Universe is a chaotic little genius.
Working in education wasn’t on my vision board, okay?
But somehow, it cracked me open. It gave me new stories, new skills, new strength.
Not everything is meant to be permanent – but every experience can be purposeful.
Trust the nudges. Even the weird ones.
✨ Lesson 4: Daily human interaction is an entrepreneur’s secret sauce.
Look, I love working from home. I love stretchy pants. I love having snacks within reach. But talking to actual people during the day?? Revolutionary.
Even just saying “good morning” to someone who isn’t a cat? Underrated. 10/10. Highly recommend. Whether it’s a co-working date, a walk with a friend, or joining a community space – find your people. We weren’t built to do it all solo.
I’m still finishing out the school year (cue the bittersweet countdown and daily caffeine-fueled pep talks), but once summer hits? Brazen House is officially back in session. I’ll be hitting the ground running next month – clearer, bolder, and more excited than ever to help you show up online like the main character you are. 💻👑
If any of this resonated – if you’ve had a detour, a burnout moment, or a plot twist that didn’t make sense until it totally did – hit reply. I’d genuinely love to hear what lesson the universe has handed you lately.
Because here’s the truth:
You don’t have to wait until things are perfect to begin again.
You don’t need a permission slip to pivot.
And you’re allowed to take the long way — as long as it leads you back to yourself.
You’re not behind. You’re becoming.
And I’m cheering you on the whole way.
We’re in this together,
Melissa
